• A predefined sequence of packets used to define data transfer between the host controller and an I/O device

• Each transaction must be completed within the same frame

• USB specification defines four transaction types to handle different types of data transmitted along the bus

• The four transaction are handled differently both in terms of time accuracy and of quality accuracy
